<img:caption>Modal commit moved to a separate plugin in 2025.1 - Discussion – Leonid Bushuev – What was good in the commit dialog: - when I am committing my change, I can focus on this change, because it's a critical part of my work — in bug organizations a pushed commit can never be modified or reverted. - I can see all commit options — it is crucial to get them correct. – What is wrong in the new "non-modal" way: - the commit options are hidden and hardly accessible, wrong options can be overlooked that may follow to break my work (Idea can modify my code after my review just before commiting). - I have to see the large contrast "commit" and "push" buttons during whole my work, when I need them once per couple of days. - The field for comments looks ugly because a comment usually is one sentence, not a petite column in a cheap paper. – Please save the good old functionality that people have enjoyed for 25 years.</img:caption>

<img:caption>Modal commit moved to a separate plugin in 2025.1 - Discussion – Ilya Kalibrov – Hello everyone! As you may have noticed, we’ve disabled modal commit in the 2025.1 EAP. This wasn’t an easy decision, but there are a few key reasons behind it: – Performance & overall experience. Modal commit introduces lag and performance issues, adding to our technical debt in ways we can’t effectively address. – Remote development. The current implementation of modal commit limits our ability to focus on a seamless remote development experience, which is becoming essential. – Non-modal commit. We introduced non-modal commit a few years ago, and it’s now the default for the vast majority of users. We know it’s not perfect—there’s fair criticism to be had—but we’re continually improving it. With the existing customization options, we believe it can be a solid alternative. – We understand that this change might be frustrating (which is why we rolled it out in EAP first). To help ease the transition, we’re moving modal commit to a separate plugin, which will be available with the 25.1 release. That said, since we can’t maintain both solutions long-term, we won’t be updating the plugin after release. However, we’ll review community pull requests to keep it going if there’s interest in maintaining it. If you’re looking for ways to tailor your commit experience, we gathered some useful options in the IDE and documented them. We know some of these settings aren’t as visible or intuitive as they should be, and we’re working on making them more accessible in future releases. I’ll share more details about the plugin when 25.1 is released and will be here to answer any questions in the meantime!</img:caption>

<img:caption>Modal commit moved to a separate plugin in 2025.1 - Discussion – Anastasia Ronzhina – TL;DR: Roadmap for Commit Experience Improvements – 1. We’re bundling the modal commit plugin in the next release candidate, allowing continued use of the modal commit without having to search for or download the plugin. – 2. We’ll introduce incremental improvements to the non-modal commit experience, based on feedback, including better keyboard navigation, an improved commit tool window. – 3. We’ll investigate a solution for distraction-free commit process. – 4. The modal commit dialog will still be available as a plugin during and after this transition. – 5. We’re planning to unbundle the modal commit plugin in 2025.2, after completing mentioned improvements and gathering more feedback to ensure a smooth transition. – Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding the transition from the modal commit dialog in the 2025.1 EAP. We understand that this change could impact your workflow, and for that, we sincerely apologize. Unfortunately, our initial communication did not clearly convey the motivations and plans behind this change. We also apologize for the delay in our response—we took the time to carefully evaluate your feedback and consider the best path forward. We appreciate your understanding and are actively working to improve the user experience. Our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience with VCS. – What We’ve Heard – From your comments, the key concerns are: Loss of a focused commit experience: Many of you prefer the modal commit dialog because it helps you concentrate solely on the commit process without distractions. * Issues with the non-modal commit tool window: You've pointed out that the current non-modal experience can feel cluttered, lacks some key features, and isn’t as keyboard-friendly as it should be. * Disruption to existing workflows: We recognize that changing long-established habits is difficult, and we don’t take this lightly. * Concerns about the plugin alternative: While we’ve provided a plugin for modal commit, the lack of long-term maintenance raises concerns about its future viability. * Desire for choice: Many of you have expressed that you want the ability to choose between modal and non-modal commit interfaces. – Why We Made This Change – Our decision to move away from the modal commit dialog was not made lightly. There are both technical reasons and long-term user benefits driving this transition. Here’s why we believe this is the right direction. – Continuous Workflows – The non-modal commit experience is designed to keep you in your flow without unnecessary interruptions. Instead of locking you into a single-purpose dialog, it allows you to stay engaged with your code while committing changes.</img:caption>

<img:caption>GitHub PRs: Flickering of icons when hovering link in Sonarcloud comment – YouTrack Workflow Bot: Hello @Alexander Münch, We’re reviewing older unresolved issues to ensure they are still relevant. Could you please update your IDE to the latest version and check if the issue is still reproducible? If the issue persists and prevents you from using the IDE or blocking your work, please reply with a detailed description on how it impacts you. Providing relevant logs and a minimal sample project would help us investigate more efficiently. If we don’t receive a response within two weeks, we will assume the issue is no longer relevant and close it. Thank you for your time and understanding! – Alexander Münch: Hello @YouTrack Workflow Bot, I reported this issue nearly 5 years ago. If you would be a bit faster working on reported issues, I would have helped you out gladly. Unfortunately, in the meantime I do no longer have access to the project from 5 years ago, therefore I cannot verify. Did you not reproduce the bug back then and/or now? – Ivan Pajic: Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, we don't have enough resources to try to reproduce each reported case, therefore we need to work on a prioirty/severity basis. As we haven't had similar issues reported with SonarCloud integration in pull requests, since, I will mark this issue as obsolete. Right now it is not reproducible for us, and we haven't tried when the issue was first reported due to lack of resources, unfortunately. Thank you for the update and apologies for the inconvenience.</img:caption>
